PONT has been selected, from over 200 submissions, as the winner of the 2018 Pathfinder Award.

The Award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative solutions for protected and conserved areas, is presented by the United Nations Development Programme; the International Union for Conservation of Nature; the World Commission on Protected Areas; and WildArk, and supported by the Biodiversity Finance Initiative and PANORAMA.

The winners of the award were determined through a rigorous 2-step selection process: a shortlisting phase involving around 20 experts on protected and conserved areas financing; and a jury selection phase, through which a high level international jury determined the winners from the shortlisted candidates.

The PONT submission was praised as impressive, innovative, and unique. The assessors noted in particular that the transboundary nature of cooperation and grant making, by PONT, in a space where formal institutions are lacking, is highly remarkable. PONT is a truly innovative solution that has ensured long-term financing for regional conservation.
