On July 7th, 2024, the local office of Eko-svest  in Vevcani, in collaboration with Rupicapra MTB Adventure, organised the mountain bike tour “Vevcanska Golina – Lokva.” Over 130 participants from across the country gathered to experience the stunning landscapes of the Мonument of Nature Vevcanski Izvori and the Jablanica mountain.

The main aim of this event was to unite nature enthusiasts and cycling lovers, promoting the mountain biking potential of the region. The tour started in the center of Vevcani and ended at Vevcanska Golina. The 30 km trail featured an elevation gain of 1100 meters, allowing participants to revel in the beauty of Jablanica, culminating in a short hike to the glacial lake Vevcanska Lokva.

The inspiration behind organizing this event stems from the area’s potential for cycling tourism and adventure sports. Such activities foster an appreciation for the natural treasures of the mountains and emphasize the importance of environmental conservation. Eko-svest remains committed to preserving and promoting the protected area Monument of Nature Vevcanski Izvori and Jablanica mountain.

This bike tour was supported as part of the project “Support for the Sustainable Management of the Nature Monument Vevcanski Izvori” implemented by Eko-svest, financed by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT).

The goal of the project “Supporting the sustainable management of the Monument of nature “Vevchani Springs” implemented by Eko-svest and funded by Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust – PONT is to achieve long-term protection of the Monument of nature “Vevchani Springs” as well as the prosperity of the local community through practices for sustainable management of the natural values of the protected area. In terms of this project, Eko-svest is working on raising public awareness through education, improving the infrastructure for visitors, monitoring key species in the areas as well as attracting more visitors to the area.
