Paule is the founder and CEO of BiodivEarth, a Swiss-based NGO established in 2023 and focusing on the resilience of conservation achievements. Previously, she led the Mediterranean Programme at the MAVA Foundation for 14 years, where she managed a rich set of partnerships, launched technical regional programs and co-created donor collaboratives. She accompanied the planned closing of the foundation, getting involved in developing alternative financing strategies to replace MAVA’s support.
Her academic background is in conservation biology. She holds a PhD from the University of California Davis, where she researched factors influencing cheetah conservation in East Africa. Subsequently, she focused on inventorying communities of mammals and birds of BOSAWAS Biosphere Reserve in Nicaragua and studying the sustainability of Indigenous hunting practices.
A keen interest in the interrelation between nature and culture led her to document the traditional knowledge, beliefs and practices of the Mayangna People of BOSAWAS for the UNESCO Local and Indigenous Knowledge System Programme.
She is a board member of the Foundation Tour du Valat and participates in the Advisory Council of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund for the Mediterranean. She also serves as a Special Advisor to the Donor Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems and to the crowdfunding platform Project Flamingo.
