Anni Kallfa

Anni initially graduated as a biologist from the University of Tirana and then went on to study for an MSc. in Environmental Sciences and Policy at the Central European University. Later, she returned to the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana to complete a PhD in Plant Biotechnology. She is the author of several publications on biotechnology and biodiversity.

With more than 20 years of experience working in the environmental field, Anni has had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas related to environmental protection (Management of natural resources and biodiversity, climate change risk mitigation and adaptation, environmental policy, either at project or strategic level). She has worked on projects financed by the UNDP, UNEP/GEF and the Albanian Government, focused on biodiversity and genetic resources in the framework of international conventions and protocols, including Cartagena and Nagoya Protocols.

She has also previously held positions at Albanian Development Fund and the Albanian Power Corporation as the Environmental and Social Safeguards Team Leader. Her roles with the implementing agencies saw her being responsible for the environmental and social risk management of infrastructure and hydropower projects financed by the World Bank, EBRD, EIB, KfW, alongside other donors. She was involved in preparing the necessary safeguard instruments required by donor organisations – Environmental and Social Management Framework, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Resettlement Policy Framework, Environmental and Social Management Plans, Biodiversity Action Plans, Climate Risk Mitigation Plans and Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy among others, ensuring their applicability to the national system and vice-versa.
