Announcing the establishment of the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT)
With 11€ million in funding from the MAVA Foundation and KfW Development Bank and technical support from WWF Greece and the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) was established in November 2015 as a German Foundation, legally operational under the foundation law of the German State of Hessen.
PONT is a transboundary Conservation Trust Fund dedicated to conserving the Prespa-Ohrid ecoregion and its rich natural and cultural heritage by providing effective long-term funding support to the national parks and conservation organizations in the region. PONT’s mission is to “provide long-term financing for the conservation and sustainable management of biological diversity, natural processes and ecosystem services in Prespa and its wider area for the benefit of nature and people in the region.”
Under the direction of the PONT’s Board of Directors, PONT will recruit an Executive Director in 2016 and expects to begin grant making activity in Greece the second half of 2016 and in Albania and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in 2017.
